Rapid Development

by Steve McConnell

I finished this back in the summer of 2007, and realized yesterday that I haven’t posted a review.

In short, this book is definitely recommended. Like the first McConnell book that I read, Code Complete, it is full of practical advice supported by studies and real data. There is almost too much information. Make sure to keep a pen, paper, and highlighter handy when reading so you can keep track of all the good morsels of advice.

But don’t think things are hard to find. When encountering process or other team problems, you can quickly browse the table of contents to find the section/chapter that will contain the data needed to help change things. The last half of the book highlights all the best practices that software teams should be using, again making it easy to find just the data and argument needed to convince others to change for the better.
